Frequently asked questions

What does "Crawled - currently not indexed" mean?

Google fetched the page but chose not to index it, usually because it looks thin, duplicate or low value compared with other pages. Improve, merge or noindex those pages.

Is it bad to have pages that are not indexed?

Not always. Redirects, alternate pages with a canonical, and noindex pages are expected. Server errors, soft 404s and important pages stuck in "Discovered" need action.

Which file should I upload?

The "Critical issues.csv" from the Pages report export gives the full overview. A per-reason URL list helps find patterns such as parameters, pagination or one folder.
