Frequently asked questions

What is a toxic backlink?

A link from a spammy or manipulative site, such as link farms, casino or pill sites, or paid links with keyword anchors. Google ignores most of them, but bad link schemes can lead to penalties.

Should I disavow every spam link?

No. Google says most sites never need to disavow. Use it if you have a manual action or know you built bad links in the past.

How is the risk score worked out?

Each domain gets points for spam signals: spammy domain endings, spam words, random names, keyword anchors from weak sites, site-wide links and language mismatch. 60 or more is high risk.
